Łódź Crossrail – putting the Łódź real estate market on a fast track
The new tunnel will not just improve accessibility of central Łódź, but will also increase the city’s metropolitan role also impacting the local real estate market
- Jan Zombirt
The tunnel and accompanying infrastructure will not just provide an additional connection between local stations. It will also bridge what has been an enduring gap in the national railway network and allow Łódź to play a pivotal role as a key transport hub.
Central Łódź will tighten its connections with surrounding suburbs as well as towns located further afield. The ability to tap into new employee pools will strengthen the competitive position of Łódź agglomeration as a key service and industrial centre.
New stations are anticipated to disrupt the current perception of the city centre boundaries, with the city set to become more polycentric. With improved accessibility and new gravity points in place, the functional city centre area will be enlarged, encompassing the New City Centre around Fabryczna station.
The new route may eventually mark out a new commercial axis, becoming an alternative to the area along the Piłusdskiego and Mickiewicza Avenues.
With new route in place, the authorities will gain a strong argument for the implementation of policies fostering urban sustainability.
